Welcome friends, family, and fellow wanderers! Exciting news! We decided to start a blog! If you are wondering who 'we' are; we are the Lubbers. Emily and Corey Lubbers, established June 15, 2019. I (Emily) am a commercial architect and interior designer. My husband (Corey) is a real estate investor. We have two beautiful daughters (identical twin three year olds) and two large dogs! But most importantly, we love to travel!
Our mutual love of travel is probably one of the things that drew us together in the first place. Corey and I met online in September of 2016. Corey sent me a message after checking out my profile. What I remember most about that first message he sent is that he touched on my two favorite things: Travel and Michigan State Spartans. In fact, I love the Spartans so much that our first date was to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the MSU vs Notre Dame game (MSU won of course). It didn't take us long to hit it off. We moved in together May 2017, got engaged December of 2018, and tied the knot June 2019. Corey proposed by sending me on a scavenger hunt around northern Kentucky, to some our firsts and favorites. Our oldest niece even read me a clue via facetime. It was perfect. We got married outside in the pouring rain in front of all of our friends and family! Then we went on an epic honeymoon through Europe that included an unexpected trip to the US Embassy in Croatia, but that is a story for another post.
Not only do Corey and I share a love of travel, but we also share a love of the same type of travel. We prefer mountains to beaches, we don't sit still well, and we love to hike. Our favorite type of trip would be one where we hike all day, relax in a nice and cozy cabin in the evening, and try as much craft beer as we can get our hands on at night. We prefer to stay in places with kitchens so we can make our own meals, though we are always sure to try the local cuisine at least once every trip. We regularly pack in as much to each trip as we can because I have limited PTO and budget traveling is something that is important to us. The goal is to see as much as possible in an economic but comfortable way.

First photo Corey and I ever took together. It was a Bengals game in September 2016!
Corey and I took our first real trip together in February of 2017. We went to Asheville, North Carolina to hike and drink beer. Since that first trip we have been to 21 states, 16 countries, and 16 US National Parks. We both have the goal to hike all of the national parks as well as visit all of the states. If we could realistically squeeze in seeing every country we would probably say that as well. We also regularly check out parks around Cincinnati and visit our family in Indiana and Michigan.

Photo from our first trip and still one of my favorite photos of us!
Something I have learned in the last 5+ years is that I would have enjoyed being a travel agent in a different life. I plan (with Corey's help) all of our trips. I love it! I love figuring out where to go, how to maximize how much we get to see, and picking out where we will stay and what not to miss. To this day people still make fun of me for my sample Iceland Itineraries (there were 9) and in-depth travel plan. Jokes on them as I have shared that information with many people! The goal of this blog is to chronicle our trips, both to help us remember and also share our trips and vacations with our friends and families. We look forward to sharing with you!
Check out below for some photos of our wedding. I also couldn't resist posting one of our favorite pup, Nova, who will be making an appearance throughout the posts!
